July 18th, 2008, Lake Starnberg, Germany
Organizer: Dr. Eduard Kraft
Vinod Goel provided experimental examples how modularity as a principle for a cognitive architecture can be tested and implemented into a functional imaging experimental framework. Additionally he discussed the difficult definition of modularity as well as the conceptual dissociation between horizontal and vertical modularity and how this description relates to other nomenclatures. During the roundtable discussion there was a consensus, that there is still a lack of a generally accepted definition and concept of modularity.
Aims:
- To get a better understanding of the debate started by Jerry Fodor with his influential monography „Modularity of Mind“.
- To discuss the implications of this debate in respect to the definition of modularity
